Good Morning Run

Sometimes, if you search, you can find beauty even in the concrete.
My morning run.....

Filling in the sidewalk cracks with colorful tile
is such a neat idea.

This is 6000 Morningside Ave., but it appears to greet
people with "Good Morning(side)"

What a Deal

While perusing the thrifty wares at Buffalo Exchange,
I happened upon this cool Pucci inspired scarf (I was hoping it was real- alas, no dice, as I was luckless in locating the Pucci insignia anywhere on the scarf).
Still, priced at seven dollah (make ya' holla)- I couldn't pass it up.
This is definitely coming to Miami with me.

Bright bracelets too....

Beignet Breakfast

I went to Oddfellows,a charming little
breakfast spot (brunch, lunch & dinner are served as well)
located in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas.

Fresh beignets & French press= perfect breakfast
I can't wait to visit again.

Yarn Bombing Bliss

The knitter equivalent of Banksy, Magda Sayeg has produced
some amazing examples of yarn bombing & public knitting installations.
For all things Magda, check out her website
& blog (aptly titled Knitta Please).

The complete knitting nerd inside of me went crazy
when I found this tree in a parking lot
on Greenville avenue @ Lovers lane in Dallas!
Thanks Magda for inspiring knitters all over
the World to produce these beautiful creations.

Summer Scarves & Such

Every Summer I get to put away
sweaters & pull out head scarves & sun dresses.
It's similar to getting a brand new wardrobe every year
(purchased straight from my attic).
I DID, however, just get
a new bikini by Mara Hoffman & a straw bag
(Both purchased from
Sirene Swim)

Dressing becomes easy, quick, & casual.
(Yes, I have worn a bikini top under shirts before. Ask any girl & she'll most likely agree that it's much more comfortable.)

The bright colors always put me in a good mood.

Scarves are so useful.
I love that my crazy hair can be it's crazy self
when I'm at the pool all Summer & get away with it.
Sometimes, the craziness needs a little containment.
Tying a scarf like a headband around my head works wonders.
Otherwise a big ol' messy bun will suffice.

Most of my scarves are vintage & never cost more than $5.

Grab some flip flops, a sun dress, a pair of sunglasses
 & off ya go...

Dad Wore Jorts

But he was not a hipster.

He was more of a hippie redneck
who could have built an entire house by himself if required.

He was an amazing carpenter
& he taught me to notice the small details of design.
So I get lost looking at the windows of Anthropologie...

This photo is a great representation
of how my father operated.
We were in Germany
& he was pointing out some sort of construction detail
he deemed genius in a basement window,
which no one had probably noticed since the window was installed.

When I geek out staring into a glass of milk,
take multiple photos of it,
& think how cool the bubbles on top of the glass look,
I think,
"Dad did this kind of stuff all of the time."

Who knew dad was so stylin' with his jorts?!

These cutoffs I made from a pair of jeans I didn't wear
very much
have become my Summ-summ-summahtime staple/
uniform.

P.S.
I'm not a hipster

My dad is no longer here & I miss him every day -
he rocked!

If ya' have a dad & he rocks, I'm sure he'd love to
hear it from you!

Happy Father's Day to all the quirky jorts wearin'
rockin' dads!

Sweet Relief

It's hot - REAL HOT - & I am constantly reminding myself that Diet Dr. Pepper is NOT a
substitute for water.

I've decided try infused water.
Infused water is simple, cheap, and tastes soooooo good!

I made two versions:
Cucumber
Mojito

Cucumber Infused Water

2 Cucumbers sliced

Simply put the cucumber slices in a 1 gallon water pitcher or jug.
Fill with water.
Put it in the fridge until cold!

Mojito Infused Water

(my personal favorite)

1 1/2 Cups whole mint leaves
4-5 Limes

Slice the limes (Really, however you deem limes to be sliced will work fine....as long as they are sliced.)
Throw the mint leaves & limes in a 1 gallon pitcher or jug.
I squeezed 1/2 of the lime slices into the water to give it a stronger flavor, but it's not required.
Fill with water.
AND DONE!

Hints

The water actually tastes better on the second day, after the ingredients have been able to infuse the water for a longer period of time.

The ingredients can be reused. If you drink the entire gallon of water in a day or so, just refill the pitcher with water. I tried this & the water tastes just as good!

I added a little sweetener to my glass of mojito water & it totally reminds me of a virgin mojito.
(It might be fun to drink rum all day, but it's probably not a prudent decision.)

I might not drink anything else for the rest for the rest of the Summer!

This Week's Inspirations

These really cool windows at Urban Outfitters...

The flowers that can bloom even in 100 degree heat...

I don't want to forget to have an adventure in life every day, no matter how large or small.
I have an aunt who went skydiving when she turned 90.

If you ever ask me who I aspire to be like when I'm older, the answer has always been & will always be... Aunt Rusty.
A great phrase she embodies is "Joie de Vivre".
Aunt Rusty continually has the BEST attitude, smile, and sense of humor.
She even rocks red lipstick when jumping from a plane!
 This is one cool chick!

I have a niece & the kid gets excited about sand.
So, whether you are 2 or 90 life can continue to be interesting if you allow it.

Cheers!
